NATURAL DOG TREATS
BRANDING | PACKAGING | CONSUMER GOODS
OVERVIEW: A sustainable packaging design project for The Nature Conservancy's line of natural dog treats, focusing on eco-friendly materials and vibrant, appealing design that aligns with their brand values.
CHALLENGE: Develop a distinctive identity for a dog treat packaging line that adheres to The Nature Conservancy's guidelines for sustainable packaging while creating shelf appeal and communicating the natural, high-quality ingredients inside.
APPROACH: I approached this project with sustainability as the guiding principle, making intentional choices at every stage.
MATERIALS: Selected recycled paper as the base material to minimize environmental impact.
COLOR STRATEGY: Limited each flavor variant to just two spot colors, reducing printing resources while maintaining visual distinction.
ILLUSTRATION: Created custom illustrations for each package using a combination of Procreate on iPad and Adobe Illustrator.
LAYOUT DESIGN: Carefully balanced various copy requirements with visual elements, solving the "puzzle" of information hierarchy while maintaining visual appeal.
PROCESS HIGHLIGHTS: The most rewarding aspect was seeing all elements come together in the final layout. Working within sustainable constraints actually sparked creativity, pushing me to find solutions that were both environmentally responsible and visually compelling.
OUTCOME: The final packaging system successfully:
Meets all sustainability requirements while standing out on shelf
Creates clear flavor differentiation through strategic color use
Communicates brand values through thoughtful design choices
Delivers a cohesive family of products with individual personality
TOOLS USED: Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, Procreate & iPad, Digital Camera
FUN FACT: Though I do love dogs, I love cats just a bit more. My cat's name is Sofia and she has been with me since 2011.
